  • Ch – chain

Gauge

  • 9cm from point to point across motif A, or 6cm across circle part of motif A.

Notes

  • This is made in a join as you go, each motif is attached as you make it.
  • I found it easier to make and join 4 of motif A and then make 1 motif B and join, but you do not have to do this, you can make and join in any order you like.
  • Motif B is attached in an X shape rather than a + shape.
  • To make the top to fit me (a little loose) I have 11 motif A’s around and 5 motif’s high (excluding sleeves). This produces a top that is 19inch across (38inches around) and 23inches long (from top of shoulder)
  • Size can be adjusted by removing or adding rows or columns of motif A’s and adjusting motif B’s accordingly. I would recommend that you try it on as you make it to check it fits.
  • Try not to sew in ends (you can sew in centre ends) until the end incase you make a mistake as you go (this is easily done) it is much easier to undo it!
  • The diagram shows the front and back separately – however, the half motif for the sleeves in the same motif in the top, there are only 4 motif A’s to form the sleeve.
  • The front and back are continuous which I could not show in the diagram, your last motif for each row should join the front and back into a round, the top is not sewn at any point.

    Pattern

    Motif A

    2. 2 HDC in each HDC, sl st, ch 1 (16)

When joining this motif you will need to work rounds 1 to 5 as normal.
