    Materials and Resources

Below is a list of everything you will need to make this hat

  • Painbox Simply Aran – 100g balls in any colours you choose – I used the following colours;
    • Rose Red (213) (4 balls)
    • Grass Green (229) (4 balls)
  • 6mm & 4mm hook
  • Stuffing (Quite a lot)
  • 5 Green Saftey Eyes
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker

Below is a list of all the stitches (and their abbreviations) featured in this series of patterns.  All terms used are American.

  • Sc – single crochet
  • Ch – chain
  • Sc inc – sc increase
  • Sc dec – sc decrease
  • Hdc – half double crochet
  • Dc – double crochet
  • Trc – treble crochet
  • Dtrc – double treble crochet
  • Romanian Point Lace Cord (see YouTube video)
  • m/c – magic circle

Here are a few handy tips to help you with the pattern.

  • There is no specific gauge for this monster, just work as tightly as possible.
  • The monster is made using join as you go techniques for his hair and ears. (see You Tube Video for more information)
  • The monster is made holding 2 strands of yarn held together
  1. Pattern

Hair & fingers – work with 2 strands of green in 6mm hook (make 6)

Row Instruction Stitches
1 Make Romanian Point Lace Cord 2” long.  
  End cord by pulling up a loop in each of the 3 sc and then sc them together.  
  Sew end through lace cord so both start and finishing ends of yarn are together.   Tie these in a knot and set aside.  

 

Hands – work in green with 2 strands together and 4mm hook (make 3)

  Insert finger through the centre of the magic circle and then close circle tightly.   Tie end of m/c and finger together and sew in place with ends as necessary

Hold a two wing pieces together and sc around the outside to create the 2 wings.   Leave a long tail for sewing to the monster.

    Attach arms 1 & 2 between rows 27-33 just outside of the ears

  • Attach arm 3 directly under arm 1
  • Attach leg 1 and 2 under the arms between rows 51 and 58
  • Attach leg 3 at the back of the monster directly between legs 1 & 2
  • Attach the wings on the back above the middle leg around row 31
  • 3 on 3 mouths – mouth 1 &2 above 4 rows below the nose on either side and mouth 3 directly under the first 2 mouths centrally below the nose.
  • Sew in all ends
