Christmas Bunting 

 

  1. Materials and Resources

Below is a list of everything you will need to make this bunting;

  • Odd amounts of DK yarn in any colours you choose.
  • 4mm hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker

Below is a list of all the stitches (and their abbreviations) featured in this series of patterns.  All terms used are American.

  • Sc – single crochet
  • Ch – chain
  • Sc inc – sc increase
  • Sc dec – sc decrease
  • Hdc – half double crochet
  • Dc – double crochet
  • Trc – treble crochet
  • m/c – magic circle
  • sl st – slip stitch

 

  1. Notes

Here are a few handy tips to help you with the pattern.

  • There is no specific gauge for the bunting, they just may work up slightly bigger or smaller than mine.
  • The individual motives are made first and then strung together with chains

 

  1. Pattern

Santa Hat – Make 2 (I used sparkly red and a white tinsel yarn)

Row Instruction Stitches
1 Ch 2, 3 sc in ch furthest from hook, turn 3
2 Sc across, turn 3
3 Sc inc, sc, sc inc, turn 5
4 Sc across, turn 5
5 Sc inc, 3 sc, sc inc, turn 7
6-12 Sc across, turn 7
13 Sc around the edge of the hat with 3 sc in each corner  
  Sl st and cast off  
  Change to white yarn  
1-2 Sc across base of hat, turn 9
  Cast off  
  Sew a few stitches at the top to represent pom pom  
  Sew in all ends  

 

Christmas Tree – Make 2 (I used sparkly yarn in turquoise, red and purple)

Row Instruction Stitches
1 Starting in turquoise, Ch 2, 3 sc in ch furthest from hook, turn 3
2-3 Sc across, turn 3
4 Sc inc, sc, sc inc, turn 5
5-6 Sc across 5
7 Sc inc, 3 sc, sc inc, turn 7
8-9 Sc across 7
10 Sc inc, 5 sc, sc inc, turn 9
11-12 Sc across, turn 9
13 Sc around edge of tree with 3 sc in each corner  
  Sl st and cast off  
  Change to red  
1 Locate centre 3 stitches and sc across them, turn 3
2-3 Sc across, turn 3
  Cast off  
  In purple  
1 Attach yarn at the edge of the tree with a sl st, ch 8 and sl st on the tree a couple of stitches above on the opposite side, ch 6, attach as above on the opposite side, then ch 5 and attach on the opposite side.

This creates the tinsel

 
  Cast off and sew in all ends  

 

Baubles – Make 2 (I used sparkly purple yarn)

2 (sc inc) x 6 12
3 (sc, sc inc) x 6 18
4 (2 sc, sc inc) x 6 24
5 2 sc, turn 2
6 Sc across 2 stitches 2
  Cast off and sew in ends  

 

Wreaths – Make 2 (I used rainbow snowflake yarn)

Row Instruction Stitches
1 15 sc in m/c 15
2 (sc inc) x 15 30
3 (Ch 3, sk st, sc) x 15 15 loops
  Sl st and cast off  
  Tie a bow around the top in contrasting colour and sew in ends  

 

Stockings – Make 2 (I used rainbow Christmas yarn)

Row Instruction Stitches
1 6 sc in m/c 6
2 (sc inc) x 6 12
3-5 sc around 12
6 6 sc, turn  
  Sc dec, 2 sc sc dec, turn  
  Sc dec, sc dec, sl st in side of stitch, turn  
  Sc in sl st, 2 sc across the top, sc in side of st, sl st in side below last sc, turn  
  Sc in sl st, sc in next 4 stitches, sc in the next space of side, this finishes the heel  
7 Sc around 12
8-11 Sc around 12
  Sl st and cast off and sew in ends  

 

Stars – Make 2 (I used sparkly silver yarn)

Row Instruction Stitches
1 5 sc in m/c 5
2 (sc inc) x 5 10
3 (sc, sc inc) x 5 15
4 (ch 5, sk ch, sc, hdc, dc, trc down ch then sk 2 stitches on circle and sl st in next stitch to finish first point) x 5 5 star points
  Sl st and cast off and sew in ends  

 

To join together – (I used white tinsel yarn)

Row Instruction Stitches
1 Ch 6 and join with a sl st to starting ch to create a loop  
2 ch 10 and sl st through the first star in any point  
3 ch 10 and sl st through the top of the hat  
4 Ch 10 and sl st through top of wreath  
5 Ch 10 and sl st through the top of the tree  
6 Ch 10 and sl st through top of stocking  
7 Ch 10 and sl st through top of bauble  
8-13 Rep rows 2 – 7  
14 Ch 16, and sl st in 6th ch from hook to create final loop  
  Cast off and sew in ends  

 

Hang up the bunting using the loops created in rows 1 and 14.
